Eleven Urban Development Projects in Latin America Highlight Innovative Mobility Solutions

We present eleven projects in Latin America whose significance goes beyond their remarkable architecture and sustainable concepts, thanks to their integrated mobility systems that provide energy efficiency and fast movement.

The construction industry in Latin America is growing at a remarkably fast pace, not only through adopting modern and advanced architecture for mixed-use developments, but also by seamlessly integrating mobility solutions and their related services, and here we highlight eleven projects in the region that have elevated the standards of large-scale construction supported by the latest elevators, escalators, and moving walkways.

São Paulo Metro, Brazil

São Paulo, the largest city in South America, is one of the leading cities with an advanced urban mobility system, as Line 4 of the São Paulo Metro transports around 850,000 people daily across ten stations, relying on 237 elevators, escalators, and platforms dedicated to people with special needs, and República Station includes the largest escalator in Brazil with a height of 14 meters.

Patio Bullrich, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires is rich in neoclassical architecture, and among its most famous landmarks is the city’s first department store, with the iconic “Patio Bullrich” occupying this historic building since 1988, mobility solutions in the building were upgraded without compromising the integrity of the original architecture, as the escalators were refurbished to ensure visitors can reach all floors and commercial areas smoothly in the future.

RioMar Complex, Recife, Brazil

Construction of the business towers in the RioMar Complex was completed by the end of 2022, offering 88,000 square meters that include offices, stores, a lobby, and event halls, and advanced technologies are used to enhance energy efficiency, such as the high-performance thermal glass façade.

The towers also include 22 elevators operating across 31 stops, and to achieve sustainable building goals, the elevators use the AGILE system which determines the fastest and most efficient routes for transporting passengers within the building.

Quito Metro, Ecuador

Quito Metro is the first of its kind in the city and its largest urban mobility project, and once completed, Line 1 will include around 15 stations and serve 400,000 passengers, and to prevent congestion and ensure a smooth flow of movement inside the stations, 46 elevators and 76 escalators will be operated.

Pacific Center, Panama City, Panama

Panama City is home to nine of the ten tallest buildings in Latin America, which is why it is often referred to as “Little Dubai”, the Pacific Center combines office towers with a hotel and a shopping center, with a total area exceeding 200,000 square meters.

The mobility systems in the complex include 18 escalators and 41 elevators, including panoramic models that reach speeds of up to 4 m/s, and the AGILE system supports the efficient and fast operation of all elevators.

Espacio Condesa, Mexico City, Mexico
